Purple Chang

About the Artist

Purple was born in Taiwan and migrated to Australia in 1997.
Nowadays, she is a Brisbane-based artist who works through multiple mediums of art. She started painting in 2012 as a way to heal herself after losing both of her parents in the previous year.

A principal theme in Purple’s work is ‘the ways of seeing’ - this is a deep dive into how she perceives the world coloured by family, immigration, loss and healing from prolonged sadness. She is also passionate about experimenting with different mediums. Cultural diversity shows in her art, especially in still-life settings, by showing objects from home. In 2024, she was selected as a finalist in Lethbridge Gallery’s Small Scale Art Award for ‘Poetic Nonsense’ - small oil paintings of miscellaneous objects.

Purple is known for her burnt sienna watercolour portraits which she completes in one sitting.

Purple is committed to using art for charity. From 2018 to 2023, she has donated 30 works as fundraising for different organisations.
