Have you been drawing for some time but have not had any tutoring for figure drawing before? 

Do you find that sometimes a drawing goes well and other times it does not and are not sure why and what to do?

Are you concerned about all the things you might need to learn to draw the figure?

Do you hope for better proportions in your drawing?

Do you think you need to learn about anatomy so that you can draw the figure?

Have you drawn the figure many times but are keen to learn some techniques to improve your drawing beyond copying or observing?

If you have answered “yes” to any of these questions or have always wanted to give figure drawing a go, then this course is for you.

This course is designed for people with some drawing knowledge but may be absolute beginners to figure drawing. It is also for those who have tried figure drawing and are keen to learn several techniques and skills to develop their drawing further. It is also for people who have been drawing for a while but are yet to try a figure drawing course to learn some formal principles about how to approach figure drawing.

What will I learn?

  • How to start figure drawing with easy steps and methods that allow you to build your knowledge.

  • Understand your figure drawing goals and how to relate to them on your journey.

  • Strategies and problem solving to help you along the way.

  • Observing and drawing the figure in 2-dimensions, managing foreshortening and proportions.

  • Drawing the figure in 3-dimensions and manipulating the volumes in space.

  • Drawing from the live figure and managing your time during a drawing session.

  • How to use different methods to approach your drawing and practice what helps improve your skills.

  • Developing and refining your drawing skills over time.

  • Key figure ‘landmarks’, shadows and more!

Course Sessions

The course is held over four Sundays. This includes theory, drawing exercises and drawing from the model during each session.

Who is this course suitable for?

This course suits complete beginners as well as intermediate artists who would like to develop their life drawing skills.

Wayne Van Eyk provides students with foundational figure drawing methods and guides them on how to improve their skills over time. This course is conducted in a friendly and welcoming environment that nurtures learning and allows for a considered approach with compassion and curiosity. 

What do I need to bring?

- A2 drawing pad or cartridge paper sheets. We have A2 paper available for $0.50 a sheet at the studio.

- 2 Graphite Pencils (4B or softer is ideal)

- 1 kneadable eraser

- BYO lunch (we have a microwave and fridge) and drinking mug

About the Tutor

Wayne Van Eyk is an accomplished and versatile artist with a passion for the creative arts across several disciplines. His primary mediums of artistic expression are drawing, painting and woodwork, and enjoys developing his traditional and contemporary styles. His artwork is known for its enjoyment of the aesthetics and a considered sense of design. 

In addition to his personal art practice, he is also dedicated to sharing his knowledge and skills with others. Wayne has been teaching life drawing for over 10 years, an activity that has helped develop many methods for drawing and understanding the fundamentals of capturing the human form. 

As an artist who combines the realms of drawing, painting, teaching, and woodworking, he offers a multifaceted approach to creativity and craftsmanship.
